Schitt’s Creek is a Canadian national treasure! This funny and heartwarming television sitcom (airing from 2015 to 2020) was created by Canadian father and son duo Daniel and Eugene Levy. They star in the series alongside Catherine O’Hara and Annie Murphy. The series was filmed in Ontario, near the Greater Toronto Area.
The show is based on the formerly wealthy Rose family, dad-Johnny Rose, mom-Moira Rose and siblings David Rose and Alexis Rose. The family loses all of their money and are forced to move to a small town (named Schitt’s Creek) that Johnny purchased years before as a joke. They move into the town’s motel and have to adjust to a normal life without money in a small town.
Although the show got off to a slow start with a small audience, it was picked up on Netflix and gained popularity over its final 3 seasons. It’s so popular that die-hard Schitt’s Creek fans call themselves “Schittheads.” The sixth and final season ended in April 2020 and if you haven’t seen the show yet, you can catch up on Netflix.
I’ve been watching Schitt’s Creek since the first season and was in tears on Sunday night as the show won a record-breaking 9 Emmy Awards!! Talk about finishing on a high note!
I’m going to miss watching the show and thought it would be fun to take a road trip to see a few of the filming locations that are about an hours drive from where we live.
Schitt’s Creek is not a real town (as you probably know already). Some of the scenes were filmed in a studio in downtown Toronto and other scenes were filmed in small towns located throughout the Greater Toronto area.

So cool! I’m going to have to watch this series!
It’s a funny show.
I’d never heard of that show, but it sounds like it has a winning & unique premise. I have no doubt a LOT of jokes have circulated about the name. So fun to visit these locations.
It was fun to see the different buildings that are used in the show. Wish I could have visited when they were filming.
How cool! I have not watched the show, but it’s always cool to see where shows and movies are filmed!

Looks like a beautiful little town to visit! I didn’t know it was real and honestly haven’t watched the show but I mak have to check it out.
It’s very small with 600 people and one main intersection but interesting to see the real buildings after watching the show.
So cool to see all of that! Admittedly I haven’t watch this show yet, but after hearing all the love I can’t wait to watch it.
I love the show and the characters on the show.
Facinating. I love the before and after photos. I’ve watched the show a few times and am trying to like it.
I was hooked I think on the 4th episode of season 1 and the show gets better each season.
We don’t have Netflix, so I have never seen Schitt’s Creek. I may have to re-think this, though: seems like I am really missing out!
I believe that there may be episodes available to watch on the cbc website as well if you don’t have Netflix.
I haven’t watched the show but I’ve heard of it! I definitely didn’t know it was based on a real place! Very cool!
It’s a good show and was very cool seeing the buildings.
Very cool! I love seeing “behind-the-scenes” stuff. Great pictures. I had no idea these were real places!
It was pretty cool to see the buildings.
Funny that I just came across this. I’ve been watching (binge-watching) Schitt’s Creek this month and I love it! How fun to see where things are actually filmed. It’s such a great, light-hearted show to watch
I love the show – I’m watching Season 1 again on Netflix.
I just saw this series advertised – will check it out.
Let me know what you think of it once you watch it. I love the show.
This is so cool! We started watching Schitt’s Creek a few months ago and love it. I was so happy to see they won at the Emmy’s. Living in So Cal, we have a lot of movies and shows filmed here. I’ve been to some filming locations for True Blood. And a lot of shows film at our local schools. Little House on the Prairie was filmed in our city, as was a lot of older movies and shows like Tarzan. It’s always so cool seeing what the sets really look like!
Wow! Lots of filming locations where you live!!! Being close to Toronto we also have some shows and movies filmed in the area. Schitt’s Creek is a great show and hopefully more people will start watching it.
Love this show. Good read. Fun facts.
Thanks Yvette
Never seen the show, but love to see where the filming occurs!

Haven’t watched the show yet, but it sounds funny…love seeing where they film shows 🙂
It was great to see where parts of the show were filmed.
I’ve never seen this show…maybe I’ll check it out!
Let me know what you think if you decide to watch the show.
I’ve never heard of that show, but I’ve enjoyed other places where movies were made, like the prison in Shawshank’s Redemption.
That would be an interesting place to see Melissa!
I kind of wish it were a real town…hilarious!
Me too 😉
I’ve never watched the series but how cool to visit filming sites!
It was interesting to see the filming sites.
Also a big fan of the show, and it’s great to see the origins of the set design. Thank you for this!
